Government Programs That Have Failed

“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labours of the people under the pretence of taking care of them.” — Thomas Jefferson

Very interesting…

THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE was established in 1775 – they’ve had 234 years to get it right; it is broke, and even though heavily subsidized, it can’t compete with private sector FedEx and UPS services.

SOCIAL SECURITY was established in 1935 – they’ve had 74 years to get it right; it is broke.

FANNIE MAE was established in 1938 – they’ve had 71 years to get it right; it is broke.

FREDDIE MAC was established in 1970 – they’ve had 39 years to get it right; it is broke. Together Fannie and Freddie have now led the entire world into the worst economic collapse in 80 years.

THE WAR ON POVERTY was started in 1964 – they’ve had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our hard earned money is confiscated each year and transferred to “the poor”; it hasn’t worked.

MEDICARE and MEDICAID were established in 1965 – they’ve had 44 years to get it right; they are both broke; and now our government dares to mention them as models for all US health care.

AMTRAK was established in 1970 – they’ve had 39 years to get it right; last year they bailed it out as it continues to run at a loss!

WAR ON DRUGS started over four decades ago.  Failed.

This year, a trillion dollars was committed in the massive political payoff called the Stimulus Bill of 2009; it shows NO sign of working; it’s been used to increase the size of governments across America, and raise government salaries while the rest of us suffer from economic hardships.

CASH FOR CLUNKERS was established in 2009 and went broke in 2009 – after 80% of the cars purchased turned out to be produced by foreign companies and dealers nationwide are buried under bureaucratic paperwork demanded by a government that is not yet paying them what was promised.

NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND: $54.4 billion per year.  America ranks 17th in education compared to other modern countries.

DEPT. OF ENERGY: $26.4 billion budget.  Gas prices at all time high!

FAIR HOUSING ACT:  The Feds forced the Banks to issue Subprime Mortgages to minorities with bad credit.  Major cause of current recession.  841,073 foreclosures in 2012.

FEDERAL RESERVE BANK:  Broke!  There is no “reserve” just printed paper money with no backing.

So with a perfect 100% failure rate and a record that proves that each and every “service”  or  “program”  shoved down our throats by an over-reaching government turns into disaster, how could any informed American trust our government to run or even set policies for America’s health care system – -  17% of our economy?

Maybe each of us has a personal responsibility to let others in on this brilliant record, and then help remove those from office who are voting to destroy capitalism and destroy our grandchildren’s future.

OBAMA HEALTH PLAN _____________________________________________________

I’m leaving this space blank, because it won’t take long until another program, THE OBAMA HEALTH PLAN, finds its place as another government program that has failed.  Please enter Obama Health Care Plan in space provided.

After reading the above, how can any American with half a brain actually believe that somehow this government health care plan will be different?  You have to be on drugs, drunk or a real dumbo to believe it will be different. Wonderful promises about lowering premiums, having better health care, etc. etc., it goes against reality and past experience.   So keep on dreaming, you dreamers, and you will pay the piper, and it will start soon. And please, think of this blog when reality hits!

Stay well — You better!

  1. You forgot about the war on drugs.

  2. RandelSteel

Fair point, Jon. I can’t speak for the author, but personally I agree. Thanks for reading and commenting on Liberty Log.

One more thing, Jon…I saw the comments about Liberty Log from you and your buddies on your little video game forum. Very nice. You must have a lot of time on your hands! In fairness, I think we got like 10 extra page views that day just from you guys, so thanks for helping us with our site traffic!

As far as the various government programs that weren’t mentioned in this article, I thought your critique of not including the war on drugs was fair (as noted above). However, other authors at Liberty Log HAVE written about that, so please do a search on our site and you will find it. What was missing in your silly back and forth about this article and our site was something that actually refuted the claims regarding all of the big gov failures. If you think socialism/collectivism or other “progressive” forms of government work better than the free market/individualist model, than by all means, please give us proof. If not, than please go away. Now if you’ll excuse me..I have to get back to work so that I can continue to support people like you with my tax money.

  4. Hey Jon: If you read the article correctly, you will see at the very beginning of the article I write: “I got this from a friend.” I did add my own comments at the end of the blog. I also added the War on Drugs. Thanks for the help, and thanks for helping me prove the point about Government Failures.

This was great! Very informing and so true that our government can not run a program, even if our lifes depended on it, oh wait — they do. Kind of scary. How do you think they should go about The affordable Health Care Act if they repeal and replace it?

  6. RandelSteel

Thanks Melissa! We appreciate you reading us and loved your feedback.

  7. Melissa,
Thanks for commenting on Failed Government Programs. It’s so simple to comprehend, but yet, there are many who just don’t get it. These people are dreamers, some are dreamers who want to do the right thing, however, they just refuse to accept the facts. The republicans have been putting forth other ways to deal with health care, despite what the President says. Please look at the following link. Some ideas are mentioned on how to start reforming health care in a sensible way. The link is:

    Thanks again for your comment.

And even if these programs did work they way the wanted them to, they would just give you the simplest supplement because all their resources can’t be directed at you. Since they always think of big programs they put so many things into the program that it takes away the individuality of it.

What about the stimulus package? official name: American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Pretty sure that didn’t work…

  11. Kristina:

I did blog this article quite a while ago, and you are correct on the ARRA of 2009. Of course, as I stated in the blog, we should keep a blank space for additions, because you know, as well as I, that there will always be
additions. Unfortunately. Thanks for your comment.
