The General election unofficially began this week with Rick Santorum’s exit from the race ahead of the Pennsylvania primary. It is a bad sign for Obama that he is statistically tied with his opponent at the start of the campaign. This suggests that incumbency may be a drag on Obama rather than a benefit. He is now in the position of defending his dismal record while Romney is the one pushing for change.
